Steve Brown's 6th Bow-Harvested Wild Turkey Grand Slam
Completed May 25, 2008

Steve just completed his 6th Bow-Harvested Wild Turkey Grand Slam this spring
and his 5th consecutive Grand Slam for the past 5 years).

(Please see related images and detailed story below).

Congratulations Steve on a great turkey season. To complete a grand slam in one season is a most admirable accomplishment and to do it with archery equipment is a most difficult challenge. To do it for 5 years consecutively is awesome and almost inconceivable. Again congratulations and thanks for sharing your bowhunting experience with our bowhunting community.

Montana

MBA Life member Steve Brown from Starkville, MS called in and harvested this 19lb. Montana Merriam's gobbler late in the afternoon on May 14, 2008. The mature tom sported a8 1/2" beard and 3/4"spurs. Steve took this bird at a distance of 46 yards and made his longest shot on a turkey to date by taking this bird off the top of another big tom that he had just previously shot at 16 yards. Steve said that the the two big toms came in together strutting and he shot the first bird at a distance of 16 yards, the first turkey expired at 46 yard sand his "buddy" jumped on top of him. Steve had another tag and couldn't resist!! (it's legal to kill two in one day, if you have the tags) Steve couldn't help but smile as he said"Those two big 'ol gobblers came in together and they 'left' together." Steve was using his usual equipment on this memorable hunt; his Matthews Switchback, Gold Tip XT Hunter5575 arrows tipped with a Rocket broadhead.

Kansas

MBA Life member Steve Brown from Starkville, MS and two good friends Tripp Walker and Jon Smith traveled to Western Kansas late in the season for Steve to try and complete his 2008 Archery Grand Slam. Steve called in and harvested this 16lb. Kansas Rio Grande gobbler with both of his buddies watching as he made the 17 yard head shot. Steve said " Time was running out, as I had to finish my guiding and outfitting business and the season was almost over and I still didn't have my Rio Grande for this year. When I finally got my chance the gobbler stopped behind a tree and strutted directly away from me towards 2 real hens and due to the tree and several limbs in the thicket I was hiding in, I was at full draw and only had a shot at the gobblers head. It was crunch time and I got really lucky to make that shot, but I knew that I would clean miss him or kill him instantly." The gobbler sported a 8 1/4" beard and 1" spurs. Steve harvested this turkey on May 25, 2008 at 4:35pm using his usual equipment; his Matthews Switchback, Gold Tip XT Hunter 5575arrows tipped with a Rocket broadhead. Congratulations Steve on a fine shot and another Archery Grand Slam!!!
