2nd Annual MBA/Archery in Mississippi Schools (AIMs) 3-D Tournament Photo Gallery

(3-3-2012) (from Jackson, MS)

On Saturday March 3, 2012, in excess of 100 archers visited the MDWFP Jackson Archery Center to compete in the 2nd Annual AIMS 3-D tournament.  This shoot was a joint project for the MBA (Mississippi Bowhunters Association) and the JAC (Jackson Archery Center).  The MBA provided a concession area with fresh grilled food, refreshments, man power, and the MBA 3-D coordinator, (Bill Tolbert), shared ideas, direction, and advice that enabled the JAC staff to set up a top notch 3-D course. The course was set up in the river bottom land located just south of the Archery Center in a wildlife rich environment.  Each target represented a native animal of Mississippi and was marked with a 12, 10, 8, and 5 scoring ring.  Each archer was allowed to fire one arrow per target then proceeds to the next target. Many shooters commented positively on the range, facility and results (through our school programs)  As the tournament concluded at the awards were handed out and an enormous amount of door prizes were handed out.  The entry fees were totaled and the entire amount was donated to the FOUNDATION for the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks earmarked for the AIMS (Archery in Mississippi Schools). This money can be added to the many thousands of dollars donated yearly by the MBA for our archery program that is going strong in over 200 schools in our great state.  This program has single handedly curbed school dropout rates and changed the directions of many children’s lives in the few short years it has been available to our school systems.  If you have interest in getting your school involved in this valid program please contact Waldo Cleland at (601)674-0777 or email Waldo at: msarcheryinschools@hotmail.com.
Thanks again to our friends at the MBA for all of your work and help.  Remember- We are changing lives, one arrow at a time.

John and Jennifer Ratcliff (L to R) placed their arrows in the center of the vital kill zone on this 3-D target. Their arrow shafts were actually touching each other and they recorded either a 10 or a 12 for this target. Their daughter Molly (far right) was the official score keeper and we will have to check with Molly to see if John and Jennifer were credited with a 10 or a 12 on this particular target. Either way, John and Jennifer are to be congratulated on excellent shot placement!

Caleb Baldwin is about to release and commit his arrow to the down range target 3-D turkey target as his shooting partners watch in the background (L to R) Houston Smith, Gary Baldwin and Brian Smith.

After the shooting was over and the arrows were scored this group of shooters paused to document their arrow placement. From (L to R) are Caleb Baldwin, Brian Smith, Houston Smith and Gary Baldwin. This ole Tom turkey got 'creamed'. Good shooting guys on this target with a small kill zone.

We just had to feature the highlight shooter of the day. Four year old Daxton Hammett took his longbow and was able to capture overall 2nd place in the 'Braves' category for the tournament shoot. Congratulations to Daxton!!
